Dreams ignite us, move us

"The daily chemo and major surgeries were grueling. I wasn't allowed visitors because of the pandemic. I was allergic to my medications. I lost my hair, parts of my body, and much of my mind.

But I had a dream.

And I held on to it."

— Alyssia Jovellanos, Founder of A Billion Dreams

Send your dreams to space

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it too late to secure a name/dream engraving ticket?

Unfortunately for our Falcon 9 SpaceX Transporter-10 mission, it is too late. However, you can still support us by going to our donation page, and subscribe to our email list to be notified of future launches! Our first mission carrying the first 100 names and dreams was launched from Calfornia by SpaceX on March 4, 2024. Watch the launch video here!

Where do proceeds from the mission go?

A Billion Dreams is a non-profit organization. We're using the funds to continue sending names and dreams on space missions annually, and to contribute to science and technology by raising awareness and enabling scientific research in space that can benefit many more people on Earth.

Our first mission is launching with SpaceX on the Falcon 9 Transporter-10.

Depending on the amount of proceeds we are able to raise in our first mission, we also aim to be able to fund the costs of other plaque missions and fund experiments to send on high altitude balloons and beyond.

We also work with charities like SOS Children's Villages, sending up free names & dreams of vulnerable youth.

Why send names and dreams to space?

The simple act of sending a name and thinking of a dream or goal that you want to hold on to can change an entire person's trajectory.

During cancer treatments, our founder Alyssia often looked up at the sky and found inspiration in space. There's something about space that makes us wonder, dream, and think of something bigger than ourselves.

Why is A Billion Dreams interested in research in space?

Many of today's innovations come from discoveries made in space research. From GPS technology to cancer therapies to portable ultrasound machines, the benefits of space research extend far beyond the realm of space exploration.

With the decommissioning of the International Space Station expected in the next 5-10 years, we believe that it is more important than ever to find more ways to enable this kind of scientific research.

If you're interested in supporting us beyond space mission tickets, check out our direct donation page here.

Why is there a deadline to submitting names and dreams?

Physical payloads and hardware launching on SpaceX need to be finalized many months ahead of the launch! So to make sure the names and dreams make it on time, we require submissions by then. Thanks for your support!

How do the names and dreams get on the SpaceX rocket? Are they engraved?

All names and dreams submitted by the deadline will be etched onto a metal sheet that's attached to a weather satellite. That satellite will be launching on the SpaceX Falcon 9 Transporter-10 in Feb 2024, and will orbit around earth for approximately 5-10 years until it re-enters the atmosphere like a shooting star.

What are the character counts for names and dreams?

Names are up to 25 characters and dreams are up to 70 characters.

How can I donate to the organization?

If you're interested in supporting us beyond space mission tickets, check out our direct donation page here.
